At the conclusion of a nightmarish forced march the Union and Confederate Armies resumed fighting at Spotsylvania Court House on May 8, 1864.
At tour stop one you will follow in the footsteps of Colonel Emory Upton’s Union troops as they break through the Confederate position known as the “Mule Shoe Salient”. The earthworks at the famous “Bloody Angle” form the backdrop for the second tour stop. Here some of the most intense sustained combat of the entire Civil War took place. Due to the sudden arrival of two large armies, civilians became unintended players in the struggle.
Your guide will illustrate how members of the Harrison, McCoull and Landrum families saw their lives forever changed by the events of May, 1864.
